More Metric

‘Empty’ is a beautifully haunting track from the Toronto four-piece, Metric. Opening with barely-there effects, it sounds as though the guitar and vocals are coming to you on the wind. Vocalist Emily Haines hits the spot with her soft, whispery, seemingly effortless melodious modulations, before the track breaks out into an all out indie rock tune. Where here it gets slightly repetitive, the distorted guitar solo and change in tempo keeps you interested. B Side, a remix of ‘The Police And The Private’ is similarly affecting, but it relies heavily on the vocals and without them, wouldn’t really have that much impact. It is ‘Empty’ that is the real treat here, and as Haines says, “the only way out is to give in”. Give in to Metric.
