If you dislike The Little Ones you might as well put a puppy in a deep fat fryer. It would, it seems be unnatural and cruel because they are so nice. Maybe they’re not but their image and their music implies this. Trees and fluffy clouds with sweet vocals from Ed Reyes. More sugary and less pensive, but not unlike early Mull Historical Society mixed in with a bit of watered down Flaming Lips. It’s all perfectly listenable from one track to the next. Perfect for those days when you are too hung over to get excited about anything. This Californian five piece are the musical version of Sunny Delight. ‘Cha Cha Cha’ is a laidback medley of indie and west coast optimism sounding kind of like a high Shed Seven frosted with a lots of cute ‘la la la’s’.
The keyboard in ‘High on The Hill’ prolongs this feeling over nostalgia. But will it still sounds like the lead singers balls are yet to drop. It’s easy to see why ‘Oh , MJ!’ was picked to be the first single. It has an effective hook but for some reason it sparks memories of Pigeon Street. It’s easy peasy lemon squeezy fluffy pop with a psychedelic tinge. You may like it a lot. It is very likeable. But you can’t possibly put it next to Pet Sounds. Maybe you should buy some Byrds instead?
