‘Take This Heart’ is a juicy little rock number that hits the spot because it’s not trying to be anything more than a bounce-along three minute rock track. Despite being originally from Nottingham, the IV Thieves relocated to Texas for inspiration, and the epic landscape of sweeping horizons peppered by the odd cactus can really be felt in the laid-back luminous nature of their music. The influence of classic British bands like James or the La’s is unmistakable, but instead of sounding samey, IV Thieves give the sound a new lease of life. B side, ‘Won’t Be Fooled’, is a bittersweet reflection on failed relationships and shows real sentiment, evident in the reflective guitars and drumbeat that sounds like a heartbeat. Classic-sounding rock at its best.
