The Hedrons have clearly learned their rock and roll lessons well. The all female Glasgow four piece have produced a single that drips with rock tradition, from an aggressive Stoogeish punk tint to the stadium rock chorus that breaks out. There’s a general guitar whine throughout, coupled with a nagging, insistent bass line that helps to offset the banal lyrics and slightly dry vocals that front woman Tippi provides. “I need a heatseeker, I’m a heatseeker” is unlikely to go down in the annals of rock history as a classic piece of song writing. The obvious problem with The Hedrons sound is that it is too in debt to the past, too much a piece of straightforward sing-along rock without anything to distinguish itself. While there’s no doubt many folk who will listen to it and mutter that it’s “proper rock, like they used to do” these homages ensure that ‘Heatseeker’ is mildly pleasing but quickly forgettable.
