One of the most disappointing LP’s of 2006 has to be ‘Pieces Of People We Love’ by The Rapture. Their debut effort was clearly ahead of its time and is being pillaged and diluted by bands up and down the country (mentioning no names- Sunshine Underground), but the follow up is a bland non-event remarkable only for its lack of style or charisma. ‘People Don’t Dance No More’ is supposed to be a bit of a post modern post structuralist affair “People don’t dance but they are dancing to this”. All very clever but Sartre it ain’t. The thing is people are dancing, more than ever and it may be thanks to The Rapture but it isn’t to The Rapture anymore and that’s just sad. Please make another ‘House Of Jealous Lovers’ boys!
