No frills here, no over produced shots, just the basics of a seminal singer/sonwriter and his acoustic guitar. In these times where the conveyor belt of pop acts has gone into overdrive, it's often refreshing and comforting to hear music stripped down to its essence, where the soul is bared for all to admire. On ‘Cold & Wet’ Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy a.k.a Will Oldham, proves that the area of music known as alt-country is worthy of greater exposure, particularly in the UK. Artists such as Daniel Johnston and Johnny Cash would fit neatly next to Billy Boy, with their gruff vocals and often simple guitar pluckings. Great.
