‘Lovelight’ is a cover of soul legend Lewis Taylor’s hidden gem and was recorded with the expertise of producer extraordinaire Mr Mark Ronson. So Robbie has suddenly risen up a few notches on the cool list. But does it work? From its fantastic electronic punchy intro to Robbie’s falsetto vocal (on this occasion not irritating) it unfolds into a disco track with a funky edge that shows a new mature side (surely not) to the eternal child that is Robbie. Maybe one day he will be able to write a track as good as this rather than cover it and then marvel as he morphs into George Michael.
