Let’s face it, we’ve all got jaw ache from smiling with Lily this summer, but rather than seek medical attention, an audible cure has arrived. Hailing from North London Just Jack’s’ debut single, ‘Writer’s Block,’ is the perfect vaccine. Starting with a magical prelude that soon inherits a disco beat, and ‘Nu Shooz’ sounding bass line, ‘Writer’s Block,’ is an ode to thinking too much and over-complicating life. Funky hooks and soft swirling guitar compliment Jack’s smooth, warm voice and allow the lyrics to prevail, while the beat at heart of the record keeps pumping. So, whilst 2006 has been the year of spoken storytelling, ‘Writer’s Block,’ shows that, ‘Just Jack’s’ trying hard to make sure 2007 goes the same way.
