One of the more upbeat moments from The Knife’s gloriously gloomy electronic masterpiece ‘Silent Shout’, ‘Like A Pen’ is a natural choice for single three. While the edited version bounds along with plenty heady abandon, it’s through the eight minute extended mix that the tune truly shines. Taking a full three minutes to take off, the ominous tech-tinged beats give it a tough edge, while Olaf lends distorted, monstrous vocals that perfectly bounce off Karin’s fervent refrains “I hold my breath and count to three… must be five-hundred degrees.” Pick of the remixes is Thomas Schumacher’s beguiling interpretation, sounding like an electronic machine at meltdown, only the core melodies and atmospherics remain amidst the disorientating James Holden-esque clamour of robotic noises.
