M.Craft - 'Sweets' (679) Released 02/10/06
M.Craft (or Martin, as his mother calls him) excels in wrapping lyrics of bleak introspection in a blanket of sleazy listening. On first impressions ‘Sweets’ appears to be a tender, slightly off kilter, dreamy, sun soaked folk song. On closer inspection however it reveals a darker more cautionary tale of a young girl whose life is in disarray. This gives the song an added level of depth and shows that M.Craft is a real talent. Sadly he lets himself down on B-Side ‘She Sells Sanctuary’ yes that is right, he’s covered The Cult. It may be a live favourite and in the right hands could have been glorious but sadly Craft makes a bit of a mess of it and it comes across as dreary. Stick to your own songs M, it suits you much more.
