‘Run the Yards’ / ‘Last Tenner’ is the latest double A-side from rapper, producer and all round homegrown hip hop luminary Braintax. Released on his own prodigiously successful label Low Life Records, opening track ‘Run the Yards’ is a slightly bitter and rather predictable slagging of the major label dominated music industry, and in particular “London media white trash” and corporations where “marketing budgets make hits.” Yeah ok, he’s right, but lyrically it’s a very negative track – a shame because the instrumental demonstrates the brilliance of his beat-making. ‘Last Tenner’ is a light-hearted and approving look at boozing, told over a simple but hypnotic beat. It’s a track that’s funny and funky in equal measure and is likely to get a rapturous live response.
