The third single from London four piece, The New Shapes, ‘There’s No Escaping You’ seems to us to have been released at the wrong time of the year. On first listen it sounds like a bright and cheery song ideal for summer afternoons in the park, not for embracing the grim reality of the soon to be long, cold nights. In fact on reflection perhaps it is ideal as there really is no escaping you is there damned winter? The actual lyrics don’t bring joy and laughter like the beat would suggest, ‘”They build me up to let me down and there’s no way to turn it around’. The chorus must have taken all of 10 seconds to write but doesn’t leave you feeling short changed. It is a decent effort by a band as heavily burdened by the ‘London four-piece, hot on MySpace’ tag as much as they have been helped by it.
