‘Judy’ is another delightfully retro release from The Pipettes. For all the pleasant fun and frolics involved the last thing you expect from a band who dress like they’re from the 1950s is to hear ‘but still you want to rip out her spleen’ in the final verse. Amusingly it rather sums up the quirky nature of this unique act to work a rather vicious reference into one of the most harmless pieces of music you could wish to hear. Despite the harmonies and rhythms it’s still lacking the cutting edge needed to really compete with the best acts today and ‘Judy’ ranks as a decent but unspectacular release.
