This collaboration between two forces in chill-out works perfectly well. ‘Futures’ is ostensibly a soft understated ballad that would have been perfectly at home on Gonzalez' very own ‘Veneer’ album. Zero 7 take his typically sketchy, mellow tune, stretch it and play with it to nice enough effect – adding an undertow of glacial elcectronica here, a wooshy, scratchy middle eight here. The result is a lovely track, thta's a perfect chill out tune. No surprises there then.
