More than just an indier-than-thou name to drop, in ‘Mr Tough’, Yo La Tengo seem to have hit upon the recipe for world peace; offer a truce to the bigger guy by inviting him to work out his problems with you on the dancefloor. If only someone had told Dubya a few years ago! It’s too late now though, so instead all this track has to offer is a bit of coffee-table piano pop that you’d find at any open mic across the land. Unmemorable and falsetto filled, it’d probably get sand kicked in its face by the titular tough guy. And it’d deserve it too.
