Outkast have produced some seminal pieces of funk infused, feel good hip-hop over recent years – works so flawless it’s near impossible not to use them as a benchmark. The lead single from their much-delayed ‘Idlewild’ soundtrack, ‘Morris Brown’ sadly lacks the kind of oomph we’ve come to expect from Andre 3000 and Big Boi. The grooves are slick, the raps are typically dextrous, yet it all seems to get a bit lost in the over-laden jazz instrumentation and the over-sheened chorus. Not even the dog woofs can save it from its mediocrity. But fear not, there are much better moments on the soundtrack itself – we suggest you check it out.
