As we all know The Longcut are purveyors interesting, angular indie rock. But this EP sadly goes down the mellow avenue and takes it too far. To give this download only release some dues, it starts out well, with a funky bassline and attention-grabbing drum beat. But the opener, ‘Idiot Check’ doesn’t display enough variety – particularly in the weak vocals from Stuart Ogilvie – and, even though only 5 minutes long, feels like it is rambling on. At best, the whole EP can be described as background music, with each track merging into the next. Hopefully upcoming single, ‘A Tried And Tested Method’ will perform better.
