This is house music at his most poignant and beautiful: Robert Owen’s sublime vocals glide effortlessly over the soulful ripples of Massive Attack’s ‘unfinished symphony’ with its tides of synth strings. Hauntingly affecting, they gracefully override any possibilities of cheesiness or coffee-table ambience. Tiga’s remix showcases the delicacy of the vocals with euphoric perfection. Elegantly poised and balanced against a background painted with tension and darkness, they cut succinctly through the intensity and tension of the electro pulses. The edgier, clubbier mix blips, swirls and fades with dizzying evocations of the “out in the ghettoes” dark street-corner paranoia. A seductive, brilliant return to form for Coldcut.
