The possibility that anything of worth could come from a night spent wasted on horse tranquilisers had never crossed this reviewer’s mind – until now. ‘K Hole’ is a reckless joyride through a lost evening that starts with our hero waking naked in a dustbin all thanks to Special K (“Lipstick on my left cheek/And a bruise on the other side/And no recollection/Of what I did last night”) and moves at breakneck speed through the debauched flashbacks. One part New York Dolls, one part Alec Empire, ‘K Hole’ is raw, sleazy and not a little cheeky – and very probably single of the year. ‘Video Dream Girl’ meanwhile is a charming slice of binary love and sounds a bit like Buggles covering Spector-era Ramones. Ali, we love you.
