More Ray LaMontagne

Being compared to Bob Dylan has its obvious drawbacks. It’s the kind of pedestal that most acoustic, singer-songwriters dread, judgment based on the most prolific, reactionary and popular artist of their genre. The good news is, that while time can only tell whether Ray LaMontagne can fill Dylan’s well trodden shoes, 'Trouble' is a gem. Originally released in February, it's simple folk tale of hard times and love, LaMontagne’s deep gravel tone is heart-wrenching, urgent and mesmerising. Its delicate and powerful and most importantly of all, impossible not to enjoy.
Comparisons aside, the one thing to be sure about Ray LaMontagne is that he makes music with soul. It's emotional and memorable, more than worth a listen. A genuine singer-songwriter with something more to offer than an accompaniment to frothy coffee and skinny muffins.
