Franz Ferdinand - 'Eleanor Put Your Boots On' (Domino) Released 17/07/06

Okay, call us narcissistic kill joys if you will, but Franz Ferdinand’s new tune is pretty damn lame. Showing the other side of their façade and devoid of their cheeky art school playfulness, the Scottish indie favourites go down a poignant, acoustic-driven direction. Essentially what we get is a poor imitation of a stripped down ‘White Album’-esque track, that’s only saving grace is the clever lyrics. Twee? Yes. A great single? No fucking chance. Really, ’Eleanor Put Your Boots On’ is another pertinent reminder that Mr Kapranos and co. face an uphill struggle to create anything that will come close to the heights of that certain career defining tune.
