Death Cab For Cutie – 'I Will Follow You Into The Dark' (Atlantic) Released 10/07/06

Death Cab for Cutie tackle the biggest subject of all here – death.  Ben Gibbard singing a pledge to be with someone at the end – "If there's no one beside you /When your soul embarks / Then I'll follow you into the dark" The poetic lyrics and simple acoustic strum combine to moving, dignified and heartfelt effect.  As with Mike Skinner's recent foray in to the subject, Gibbard seems naturally drawn to religion in seeking to understand it all, making subtle reference to a catholic school upbringing.  This is not an obvious choice for a single but that's no bad thing.
