With backing from Franz Ferdinand, mentions of Postcard Records gracing every sentence written about them and endless comparisons to Orange Juice heralding their arrival its obvious even before the CD hit’s the tray that Glaswegians Bricolage are a quintessentially Scottish prospect. ‘Footsteps’ is ‘A’ typical Celtic twee-ness with a sharp, jangling edge. Never breaking a quick walking pace it infects us with its maudlin jauntiness and deep cardigan adorning soul. ‘Flowers Of Deceit’ ups the pulse rate, taking us on a mild jog around skiffle enthused riffs and unremitting percussion while you can almost hear Alex Kapranos in the drawn out gait of the chorus as the foursome groan dolefully “Flowers of Deceit, Their bittersweet, Their bittersweet” before skipping off into sprightly distance. Lets party like its 1981, just don’t forget your sweater.
