“You’re bringing me down, one nerve at a time” Clayhill singer Gavin Clark sings, his sentiments sadly echoing the listeners who immediately feels depressed and lethargic upon listening to ‘One Nerve’. Now we are all for a bit of melancholy in music, where would we be without it? But there is a limit and Clayhill see to be it, turgid, uninspiring and just plain dull they are the middle ground between singer songwriters and the ‘bed wetter’ group of indie bands, an unattractive quality we think you will agree. Coincidentally they have covered The Smiths classic ‘Please, Please Please Let Me Get What I Want’ for CD accompanying this months Q magazine, perhaps they should have paid closer attention on how to create a sad song with grace and emotion and then this whole thing could have been avoided.
