This debut release from Austin sextet Sound Team name checks The Zombies, Brian Eno, Ennio Morricone and Kraftwerk which is a wonderful variety of bands to wax lyrical about. The cover art definitely says otherwise reflecting live guitars and bass played as God intended and certainly not as our Autobahn-gliding heroes would have intended but the proof is in the pudding and I’m ready to add the cream.
‘Its Obvious What’s Happening Here’ throws a spanner by actually slightly (and only slightly but better than nothing) sounding like Broadcast. ‘In The Dark No One can Hear You Sweat’ has an extended climactic coda that mimics Eno wonderful wonderful ‘The Big Ship’ which again earns good props. Its actually all a little too close to The Strokes for my liking- slightly looser at least. But, for no apparent reason and probably hopelessly misjudging them, maybe we should just keep an eye on them, maybe there’s something there. Maybe.
