On the back of some highly limited edition singles, This Et Al unleash the seismic ‘Sabbatical’. Taking elements of post-rock, hardcore, Trail of Dead-esque grandiosity, Sonic Youth-esque rawness and fusing all this together with yearning, sighing vocals from frontman Wu, the Leeds quartet serve up a mighty apocalyptic din. The bass lines are ominous, the drums thunderous, the guitar lines rasping – really if you want fraught tension from your music then This Et Al may well be your band. On the flip side, the racy ‘Solemn As My Rifle’ is equally voluminous with Wu showing his vocal dexterity wavering into angelic territory, while the Yes Boss remix of ‘The Loveliest Alarm’ is a must for any beat-obsessed dance aficionado.
