Depression is a weird thing, it often manifests itself in the form of heavy drinking, an inability to get out of bed and general anti socialism, some cynics would claim that every student in the country is depressed. Luckily Teddy Thompson has written a depression anthem named ‘I Should Get Up’. Rather than being a self indulgent and melancholy piece it is a triumphant, rousing tune tinged with enough darkness to keep things interesting. Simple yet sweet lyrics like “Depression looms, I’m such a miserable fool, But I see the sun is beating down, No excuses from the clouds” make for an uplifting and depression lifting tune. Having said that B-Side ‘Bon Jovi Said’ sees Thompson taking advice from the big haired gimp Jon Bon, quick get the Valium!
