Chugging, gritty guitar. A stomping northern soul backbeat with a faux brass coating. Uplifting chord changes in the chorus that recall Maxïmo Park at their most unfussy and optimistic: these are the things of which ‘Let Her Go’ is made. Leeds, it seems, can’t stop spewing out quality indie acts and the arrival of The Lodger proves that there’s no sign of the well drying up. B-side ‘We Come From The Same Place’ comes from the same classicist school of songwriting that has The Magic Numbers and Belle & Sebastian as alumni and suggests that The Lodger could soon be occupying that spare room in your heart.
