If Your Vegas’ previous single ‘Flybuzz’ was the stadium-bound blast of Matt Bellamy covering the ‘Velvet Goldmine’ soundtrack (and with the line “this is planet Earth / Can you hear the flybuzz?”, had aspirations clearly beyond playing the Cockpit on a Tuesday night), then ‘In My Head’ is, if not exactly reserved then pretty, well, normal by comparison. ‘In My Head’ has a great fuzzy-monster riff, the sound of ‘Pablo Honey-era Radiohead (i.e choruses that scream POP, but without the sneer) and the keening yet full-throated vocals of Coyle Girelli that recall the guy from Morning Runner. Incidentally, Morning Runner have released one of the most over-looked debuts of the year thus far. It’s really quite lovely. However, should the Chris Martin-approved band get dropped, this is the track Your Vegas will no doubt re-release to capitalise on that ‘angry Coldplay’-sized gap. Your Vegas are quickly becoming one of our very very favourite bands. Get in to them while they’re still cool.
