Red Hot Chili Peppers - 'Dani California' (WEA) Released 01/05/06

After a bit of a hiatus the Chili’s are back with ‘Dani California.’ Cue scatty ditties, a bouncy, damn funky trademark Flea bassline, a power chorus about “California” (surprising that) and a scrawling guitar solo to round things up, and we’re on all too familiar territory once again. Admittedly, there was something quite pleasant about the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ huge surge back to popularity back in 99 with their likeable, radio friendly ‘Californian’ rock, but really they’re a bit too contrived and one-dimensional for comfort now. Yawn. Still it’d probably sound better in a gargantuan stadium with 30,000 people… or even on a beach in good old California.
