We’ll ignore the pointless clean edit and get straight to the real deal. Doubtless many of you will know La Lewis and her twins but she’s a stranger to this writer though definitely no more. “You are what you love/ and not what loves you back/ that’s why I’m here on your doorstep/ pleading for you to take me back”. So, with Casio keyboard, drums and acoustic guitar, we have a restrained, richly melodic sweet pop song with country and western sentiment. Miss Lewis piles on the lyrics but never breaks a sweat and it all becomes such an easy song to love. The country twang becomes more emphasised on ‘Fireplace’ but despite gentle harmonica, we never leave this off-kilter and frankly joyfully subtle and strange world. Both songs move quickly but equally don’t seem in a hurry, and I can see where this hack's money’s going this week.
