After last year’s politically charged (and horribly under rated) ‘C I Am 15’, Steve Mason is back again with the fantastically titled ‘Kwangchow’. Carrying on from much where he left off with The Beta Band this sounds delightfully poppy whilst at the same time has the usual air of obscurity about it to keep his hardcore faithful as confused as they like to be. Better than the title track are the flip sides; ‘Tears Dry’ is gorgeously melancholic and the Doctors of Love mix of Kwangchow is exactly what the new Primal Scream single should be. A triumph then, but one that’s unlikely to see him rocket up the charts especially when considering the non existent production values of the video.
