North London lad Akala has already been showered with superlatives by many for his highly eclectic, unhinged tunes. ‘The Edge’ (no, not an ode to the U2 guitarist) is no exception to the rule, utilising a ‘real band’ sound rather than synthetic beats with the main man’s dextrous delivery plastered on top. It’s vaguely funky and catchy and would certainly appeal to the radio waves thanks to the vocal contribution from Niara (an ex Sugababes writer) on the chorus – very nice it may be, but this is also a slight snag somewhat overshadowing Akala’s bit. Still, decent stuff.
