Okay, let’s get one thing clear this single is for charity and a very worthwhile cause so we can’t give it too much of a kicking. All that said, musically it’s hard to detract away from the fact that this version of ‘One’ is lame. Which is all pretty strange considering that ‘One’ is possibly one of U2’s finest tunes and Mary J Blige owns one of the greatest female voices of recent years. It’s a bit like veal and ice cream – both very nice individually but they really wouldn’t go together. Over-produced, meandering and lacking an iota of true emotion that songs like this really need, sadly it’s all very vacuous.
