Belle and Sebastian – ‘The Blues Are Still Blue’ (Rough Trade) Released 03/04/06

Marc Bolan was clearly ****ed off when he smashed that mini into a tree in 1977, so much so he decided to inhabit the body of Stuart Murdoch for this extract from their top ten album ‘The Life Pursuit’. And a pleasant possession it be, ambling along with irreverent bliss you could almost crash your own car into a tree. Seriously though, don’t play this while driving because you’ll be bouncing all over the highway not giving a hoot because ‘The Blues Are Still Blue’. Murdoch has clearly become a little forgetful on this upbeat lament about leaving valuables in a laundrette, to the extent that he actually leaves his lady. Tisk, tisk.  Recorded in Los Angeles it sits atop 3 other Belle and Sebastian bits ‘The Life Pursuit’, Mr. Richard (live at The Botanics) and a cover of Whiskey in The Jar that sounds like it was recorded in someone’s front room.
