The Vines are grasping at straws these days to make the public remember them for their somewhat inconsistent tune quality, rather than for their frontman wreaking havoc upon his band mates or that of Australian radio stations (their last gig and final straw for their bassist). New single ‘Gross Out’ will definitely not be remembered as one of their best songs. Clocking in at just over 70 seconds, Nicholls is obviously trying to recapture that feeling of when their classic debut single burst onto the scene and blew people away in just over a minute. This ain’t gonna happen here. Gross out sounds like a b-side to the ‘Highly Evolved’ sessions and is more of a miss than a hit. It carries no catchy riffs or hooks that they were always renowned for quite frankly has no Vines vibe. Their winning days are surely gone.
