More BC Camplight

Christ on a fucking bike - a band that name checks Bacharach, ELO and (admittedly less chucked around) Gilbert & Sullivan and doesn’t sound like the usual indie bollocks. ‘Blood & Peanut Butter’ pivots on a big phat synth bass with an acoustic guitar that’s more concerned with texture rather than tune and witty dark lyrics documenting a failing relationship. Of sorts. Maybe. The structure jumps around with genuinely surprising twists without sacrificing any of the melodies’ insistence and there’s even a simple but gorgeous synth solo. Actually, this is fantastic, and I actually feel like I can stick the goddamned human race for the day. ‘Parapeleejo’ is BC Camplight doing the Beach Boys seriously and effectively. It actually reminds us of the Beach Boys in a good way, and it’s rare that anything has that effect. OK, it’s not going to start any revolutions but this is truly great GREAT pop music. Fingers, legs, arms and even the cat crossed for this to be sustained on the forthcoming album.
