Second single from Gemma Hayes’ acclaimed new album ‘The Roads Don’t Love You’ is in a word, beautiful. As sceptics would have her fans believe that moving to L.A. and getting a band to jam with her was a bad idea, and in fairness her sound has lost its indie quality, but the whole truth is that Hayes’ sensually crafted soundscapes will not sway the loyal fans for long as ‘Undercover’ is a cute little tune showcasing a veteran musician in a young woman’s body. Get past the session musicians playing in the background and Hayes’ laid bare style is still in there haunting you just the same as her strikingly cool debut ‘Night On My Side’. Sure this single is a no-brainer for a mainstream radio hit, but let’s face it, she could sing the phonebook and it would still make you fall in love with her all over again, nuff said.
