Isn’t it funny how the Scandinavians like to consume everything that is Englishness, rummage about in it a bit, pick out the best bits and then regurgitate it all even shinier, twee and more English than its ever been before. Shout Out Louds are prime purveyors of this new improved version of ourselves and ‘Please Please Please’ is just about as good as it gets. Front man Adam Roberts croons in his best Robert Smith on ‘Stars In Your Eyes’ impersonation backed by the jingly-jangliest of melodies. However, all this happiness masks the mournful nature of the lyrics with Roberts begging “won’t you please please please come back to me” to an unknown sweetheart. She probably left him for a real English gent, not a pretend one.
