Just how catchy is ‘Turn This Thing Around’? Well, if excessively infectious tunes warranted their own advisory stickers, this is the kind of single they’d be slapped on. To be honest, the latest glittering extract from the Scottish party-popsters’ debut album packs all the gritty authenticity of Steps with added guitars, whilst the potentially introspective moping qualities of the break-up themed lyrics are blunted a notch by a presentation so glossily exuberant it’d be mistaken for Scissors Sisters on an industrial dosage of uppers. Unashamedly commercial and charts-courting, a festive Chic-boogies-with-mid-80’s-Prince-underneath-an-outsized-mirror-ball funk-pop frivolity makes this an ideal addition to the soundtrack for booze-addled Saturday nights, even if the inability to get that nagging hook out of your sore head the following morning might result in you wishing to turn this thing off, rather than around.
