The Freelance Hellraiser – ‘Want You To Know’ / ‘Pound For Pound’ (Ugly Truth) Released 27/02/06

Famed for kick-starting the bootleg craze of 2001 with his mash-up of ‘Genie In A Bottle’ and ‘Hard to Explain’, The Freelance Hellraiser is back with a double A-side of his own material.  ‘Want You To Know’ still relies heavily on a sample of 60s soulsters Rotary Connection though.  It somehow manages to sound like a more yawn-inducing version of the already soporific Lemon Jelly after their bedtime Horlicks. ‘Pound For Pound’, however, is the sleaziest dance rock groove this side of Primal Scream’s XTRMNTR.  And with a stuttering electro party anthem this good, it’s almost possible to forgive the preceding track’s dullness.
