Coldcut have enjoyed a multitude of guises over the years and 'Man In A Garage' presents yet another – gentle electro-folksters. The second single off their hotly anticipated Sound Mirrors album (their first since 1997) is an understated number with vocalist John Matthias, which sounds like the Beta Band covering Madonna’s Don’t Tell Me. However, Snap Ant’s ‘remix’ makes the song really lift-off. Taking Coldcut’s cut and paste ethos to a new level, he rerecorded the track from scratch, morphing it into an insidiously catchy Bowie/Prince groove barely resembling the original version. Snappy indeed.
