Is this it the end of Eminem? Will the oh-so suggestively titled ‘When I’m Gone’ be the final single from his ‘swansong’ best of album ‘Curtain Call’? In all honesty, we’re pretty sure it’s just a cynical marketing ploy to grab the media attention for the greatest hits collection. Sadly, despite being a decent enough effort that in its own right would be okay, ‘When I’m Gone’ is very much Eminem by numbers watered down – the trademark, dextrous rap; the same pained, introspective lyrics; the meandering pace; the tough bassline… really we’ve heard it all before thank you very much Mr Mathers. Still, guaranteed to get the album the much-needed publicity it needs so badly.
