We’re in fifth-single-off-the-album territory here – but 'Luxurious' deserves a good review for three reasons. Firstly, it utilises the same Isley Brothers sample as Notorious B.I.G. used on Big Poppa off Ready To Die – one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time, kids. Secondly, Luxurious has a great middle eight where Stefani eulogises Biggie’s favourite pastime with the delightful couplet, “Cha-ching, we're hooked up with the love ‘cause we grow it/ Cha-ching, we got hydroponic love and we smoke it.” Thirdly, smart and sexy Stefani is everything a great pop star should be - and whilst this erection-selection West Coast P-Funk homage isn’t mind blowing, it’s perfect for all kinds of blows.
