So, this year once again plays host to the iTunes festival at Camden’s Roundhouse. Well underway and into its fourth night, Foals took their part in this year’s festivities, joined by the hotly tipped Two Door Cinema Club.
Things set off well with Two Door Cinema Club taking the stage to a lively crowd who pranced around as the band mastered through favourites ‘Come Back Home’ and ‘Something Good Can Work,’ while also playing a selection of new tracks from their upcoming record.
After a well received set, Foals took the stage to a warm reception. With an ever loyal fan base the Oxford five-piece started out with ‘Total Life Forever’, which was shortly followed by 'Antidotes' favourite ‘Cassius,’ making the crowd jump in whirlwinds of teenage ecstasy.
At first though, Foals didn’t seem to be in the room, simply playing this show because they had to - not for their fans. This attitude led to very messy versions of ‘Miami’ and ‘BlueBlood,’ while the audience looked on unnervingly.
Thankfully, things picked up from there on in, with a beautiful, truly evoking rendition of ‘Spanish Sahara', the first single off their new record, leading into and electric elongated version of ‘Red Socks Pugie', with the audience going insane jerking and skanking. Foals leaded neatly into ‘Electric Bloom’ where singer Yannis Philappakis leaped into the crowd, topped off with an encore featuring stunning improvised takes on ‘The French Open’ and ‘Two Steps Twice,’ letting the gates open to a sea of crowd surfers and sweat soaked adolescents.
After a disappointing start to the set, Foals managed to pull it out the bag, saving themselves with their forever heart-warming energy and Yannis’s front man-ship.
