Sunday 13/07/08 The Breeders @ McCarren Park Pool, New York

On a hot Sunday in New York, there is nothing better to do than attend JellyNYC's annual pool parties at McCarren Park Pool in Brooklyn...and this Sunday was no exception.  Hosting 90's faves The Breeders, McCarren Park was in full swing with a packed house to catch the one and only Deal sisters.

Gathering up to the front, fans swarmed the stage as the band opened up with the track 'Tipp City' (from Kim Deal's side project, The Amps) to a loud applause.  All smiles, Kim belted out the lyrics in her unmistakeable tone hitting those signature rapsy high notes.  Backed by a fiery red haired guitarist named Cheryl, a drummer and bassist, the band stormed through hits and rarities from spanning across their two decade long career.

Bantering with the front rows, Kim Deal goes back and forth with fans and the crowd, making the massive stage seem like your own living room.  Ripping into their only mainstream hit 'Cannonball', attendees sang along in unison trying to master the sing-songy screams of the chorus.  Continuing on with a fantastic cover of the Beatles 'Happiness Is A Warm Gun', a cover from relatively unknown Dayton band The Tasties and other hits such as 'Divine Hammer' and 'No Aloha' it was very apparent they could sing just about anything and it would sound like perfection.

Walking offstage to a horde of screams, their 75 minute set ended a bit too short for everyone's liking.  Then again, they could have played till midnight and we still wouldn't have wanted it to end.
