A sticky floored North London toilet venue this certainly ain’t. The first instalment of the Coke Music Discovery Sessions sees punk icon Siouxsie Sioux (or Siouxsie as she’s more affectionately known) grace the hallowed surroundings of the first tier of the Eiffel Tower in a very sodden but very gay Paris. Gigwise is part of a group of journalists and lucky competition winners who have descended on the French capital to witness tonight’s unique event, and as soon as we’re handed our first free glass of champagne entering the plush surroundings of the first floor theatre we know it’s going to be a damn special evening.
But first up are two bands hand-picked by Siouxsie herself. Propping up the bill are the unfeasibly young Toulouse group The Dodoz who seem far more concerned with the post-millennial New York indie sounds and fashion than anything their country has to offer. Thanks mainly to frontwoman Geraldine, they’re an amiable group and are perhaps good enough to make an impact on these fickle shores and they get the industry types lubricated up for the evening ahead... then again, it could just be the free booze. London’s Headland fare equally well, stirring us up with the electro-tinged indie grooves. Quite why they still remain without a permanent record deal, we’ll never know.
