There’s no doubt that the music fans of Liverpool love their own and tonight goFaster>> benefit from this undeniable devotion. The tiny underground lair that is Korova is packed for what is the bands fifth gig of their fledgling yet fast rising career and they don’t disappoint the assembled hoards.
Sonically goFaster>> owe much to fellow Liverpudlian’s Hot Club De Paris for their snaking guitar play and witty approach to song writing but there are also touches of Good Shoes’ whippet edge wrapped in their while the live sound carries a greater body and weight compared to the recordings thus far produced. In a short seven song burst tonight they give Gigwise plenty of reasons to be excited.
The thing that strikes us instantly is that for a band that have played so few gigs goFaster>> are ridiculously tight, obviously the hours spent practicing have paid off and it shows.
Highlights include the incessant twist and interplay of opener ‘You Better Watch Out’ and the equally breathless ‘Need Nobody’ but really no song lets down the tempo or quality. ‘The Girl With The Reputation’ and ‘She Starts Monday’ are augmented with keys of the second hand store variety while a smile is brought to the face with song titles such as ‘Heathers Loaded/McCartney’s Blown It’ and ‘True Love Is Hard To Find Like An NHS Dentist’.
There’s no doubt by the end of the set that goFaster>> are a damn hot property running head first into a mountain of hype.
**** apostrophes, >>’s are the punctuation of the future…
