The audience are waiting in anticipation for the headlining act to come on. The front of the crowd is packed with wide eyed freshers waving around multi coloured glow sticks, the more mature members of the audience are further back. It seems that the Infadels appeal to a wide audience of different ages and when the lights go up and they hit the stage it’s easy to see and hear why. From one angle, The Infadels are fresh from their summer music festival regime, working the crowd like professionals, giving lots of energy and busting some of the best robot dance moves in town. And the stage is ablaze with a smart Infadels backdrop, shocking pink equipment, neon coloured belts, red fairy lights and a scolling dot matrix keyboard sign displaying “how ‘s my keyboard playing text 079xx xxx xxx”. On the other hand, their sound has got that fashionable mix of grimy indie rock and chunky electro pop, giving the more discerning music fan and club kid alike something to get down to.
Even their set is well arranged they start with two of their strongest & most infectious singles. Firstly there's ‘Love Like Semtex’ with the lyrical hook ‘you got a love like semtex, bring it to me’ and then there is summer stomper ‘Jagger ‘67’ with Bnann singing “I, I want you, with your twisted hair and lip ring stare”. And it works, the Infadels get people dancing and moshing straight up. Yep there is no messing around with this band, they know how to please a crowd, they play their instruments well, the vocals are energising and the final sound mix coming through the PA is just right. Why can’t more bands be this well produced live? Other songs they play in their 13 song set are taken from their debut album ‘We Are Not The Infadels’, bar a new tune that goes down exceptionally well, considering it’s a song people haven’t heard before and the band pull it off 100% just like all their other songs. On the way home two dressed up indie girls are talking about giving up cigarettes then they comment on the gig, “they were fun”, “yeah they were fun”. And that just sums The Infadels up, they are one of the most life affirming East London bands you will see this year. The party bus is on the road and even Pete & Nikki BB7 have got their fix, so follow that bus.
