Did someone say Led Zeppelin wannabes? The crowd inside the academy tonight seem to love the four-piece Northern-Irish rock group, The Answer, and no one can deny their commitment to their music. However the songs smack of all things 70’s that have been created a million times before and the 20-minute guitar solos and power stances begin to grow a little old after the first couple of songs.
The band certainly can’t be criticised for lack of entertainment with their hair swinging antics. They energetically work through songs such as ‘Keep Believing’ and new single ‘Never Too Late’. The tunes are enjoyable to listen too its just a shame that the crowd gets the constant feeling that this band should have been born in the 70’s rather than drawing influence from it.
The standout number, ‘Rock Bottom Blues’, surprisingly is filled with blues influences and certainly got the crowd swaying doing their best air guitar actions. These guys definitely know how to rock and the lead singer undoubtedly has an impressive voice. Which makes it such a pity that they just take themselves just a bit too seriously. Maybe they’d have been better off forming a pro-covers band.
